After an 0-3 start Dallas is now preparing for the playoffs under Coach Ewan. (AP)

As the playoffs start, there are a few teams that did not make it that really surprised me. It was around week 10 that I started to place teams in the playoffs that had the bottom drop out of their season or just failed to get it done down the stretch. St. Louis, Washington, Baltimore, and Oakland I really thought were going to emerge as playoff teams around that time. It was not meant to be. Here are my thoughts, looking back on the season, and looking forward to the playoffs ahead:
1.) Great job Coach Ewan, in my opinion, coach of the year material. Dallas was left for dead by most when they started 0-3, but the Cowboys finished 10-6, winning 7 out of 8 games at one point, to claim a playoff spot.
2.) New England is back in the playoffs again under Coach Maniac after winning the AFC East. All those struggles in Tampa Bay seem so far away for this coach.
3.) If the teams that play Kansas City in the playoffs don’t stop Larry Johnson, Kansas City will be the first team in league history to win three Super Bowls in a row, and Coach GST will be spoken in the same breath as Coach Sdlite when the conversation turns to dynasty’s and the best coaches in league history.
4.) Teams in the AFC; do not overlook the Cleveland Browns. Coach Derek defines low key. But those who have coached against him and played for him will tell you there is no lack of passion or preparation when it comes to this coach, and the Browns will be a formidable opponent in the playoffs.
5.) I think the Titans have gone much to one-dimensional in their offense, like they did last year with HB Chris Johnson. TE Craig Stevens has 117 receptions for 1513 yards to lead the league. The defensive-minded teams like the Chiefs, Browns, and Bills will key on stopping Stevens, like teams did last year by keying on Johnson, and I think this will spell another post-season that ends short of the Super Bowl for Coach Lefty and the Titans.
